Pro Code of Conduct

Every contractor on the ClearCost platform agrees to uphold these standards. Violations may result in suspension or permanent removal.

ClearCost connects homeowners with contractors who have been vetted for licensing, insurance, and reputation (applicable to their specific trade). In exchange for access to pre-qualified, scope-defined job orders, every Pro on our platform commits to the following code of conduct. These standards exist to protect homeowners, maintain the integrity of the ClearCost marketplace, and elevate the professionalism of the home improvement industry.

1Honesty & Transparency

  • Provide accurate, truthful information about qualifications, experience, and capabilities.
  • Communicate clearly about project scope, timelines, and any potential complications before work begins.
  • Never misrepresent licensing, insurance, or certification status.
  • Disclose any conflicts of interest that may affect the project.

2Fair Pricing

  • Do not add hidden fees, surprise charges, or undisclosed markups after project acceptance.
  • If additional costs arise due to unforeseen site conditions, communicate them to the homeowner before proceeding.
  • Provide itemized invoices upon request.

3Scope Verification & Site Visits

  • It is the Pro's responsibility to conduct a site visit to verify and finalize the project scope before work begins.
  • Review all project details provided through ClearCost and confirm accuracy with the homeowner on-site.
  • Identify any site conditions, access issues, or scope adjustments that may affect the project during the site visit.
  • Communicate any changes to scope or pricing to the homeowner in writing before starting work.

4Quality Workmanship

  • Perform all work to the standard described in the project scope and consistent with local building codes.
  • Use materials of the grade and type specified in the project estimate.
  • Correct any defects or errors in workmanship at no additional cost to the homeowner.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site throughout the project.

5Professionalism & Respect

  • Treat homeowners, their families, and their property with courtesy and respect at all times.
  • Arrive on time for scheduled appointments and communicate proactively about delays.
  • Respond to homeowner messages within 24 hours during business days.
  • Refrain from using inappropriate language, aggressive behavior, or any form of harassment.

6Licensing & Insurance

  • Maintain all required state and local contractor licenses in active, good standing.
  • Carry general liability insurance and workers' compensation insurance as required by law.
  • Notify ClearCost immediately if any license or insurance policy lapses or is revoked.
  • Ensure all subcontractors working on the project are properly licensed and insured.

7Privacy & Data Protection

  • Protect the homeowner's personal information received through the ClearCost platform.
  • Use homeowner contact information only for the specific project for which it was shared.
  • Never sell, share, or distribute homeowner data to third parties.
  • Delete or return homeowner information upon project completion or when requested.

8Compliance & Accountability

  • Obtain all necessary permits and schedule required inspections for the project.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Cooperate fully with any ClearCost investigation into complaints or disputes.
  • Accept responsibility for errors and work in good faith to resolve them promptly.

Enforcement

ClearCost takes violations of this Code seriously. Homeowners may report concerns through our Contact Us page. Upon receiving a complaint, ClearCost will:

  1. Review the complaint and gather information from both parties.
  2. Notify the Pro and provide an opportunity to respond.
  3. Take appropriate action, which may include a warning, temporary suspension, permanent removal from the platform, or forfeiture of fees.

ClearCost reserves the right to immediately suspend any Pro whose conduct poses a safety risk or involves fraud, regardless of prior warnings.
